Russia is ready to continue helping Syria overcome the humanitarian crisis, said Gennadi Gatílov, the Federation's ambassador to United Nations agencies in the Swiss city of Geneva.

According to statements published by Sputnik, Gatilov stressed that “since the imposition of illegal unilateral restrictive measures against Syria, we have constantly drawn attention, including on international platforms, to its extremely negative impact on the lives of ordinary people and we have actively sought on these platforms the rapid lifting of these restrictions. Russia is ready to help overcome the humanitarian crisis in Syria.”

In this regard, the diplomat recalled that, with the assistance of Russia, more than 1 thousand educational centers and around 300 health centers have been rebuilt in the Arab country, in addition to the repair of about 5 thousand homes and 2 thousand kilometers of roads.

“Russia organized more than 3,500 humanitarian actions, during which thousands of tons of food and basic necessities were delivered and distributed, while Russian military doctors provided assistance to more than 130,000 Syrian citizens,” he added.

On November 27 last year, a broad coalition of armed Syrian opposition groups launched a surprise full-scale offensive against the regular army from the northwest of the country.
