The spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said that her country rejects the recent attacks launched by the United States against vessels in Caribbean and Pacific waters. In his statement, he urged Washington to focus its efforts on the fight against drug trafficking in its own territory.
Zaharova highlighted that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) received authorization to carry out secret operations in Venezuela. In this context, he suggested that, if the United States Government intends to combat trafficking in illicit substances, it should initiate an intervention in Manhattan, where, in his words, the problem is concentrated.
The spokeswoman also questioned the use of force by the US military, stating that such measures contradict the principles of maritime law. He stated that the intentional destruction of vessels endangers the lives of their crews and violates international standards, RT reported.
According to Zajárova, these actions cause concern among Latin American and Caribbean States, which in 2014 were proclaimed territories committed to peace. In this context, he reiterated Moscow's support for the Venezuelan Government in defending its autonomy and invoked the resolution of disputes through non-violent mechanisms.
