The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova confirmed that her country is still open to establishing diplomatic exchanges with the United States, after President Donald Trump decided to cancel the second meeting with his counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Zakharova reiterated that the objectives defined at the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine remain unchanged. Among them, he cited the elimination of war capacities, the eradication of extremist ideological structures, the adoption of a non-aligned position, the prohibition of strategic weapons, the guarantee of the linguistic rights of the population that uses the Russian language and the autonomous exercise of religious practices related to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, RT reported.

He indicated that these elements constitute the basis of conversations with the United States and other international actors that seek to contribute to the resolution of the conflict. He stressed that there is a need for a framework of agreements that addresses root causes and makes it possible to establish conditions of stability within the framework of a Eurasian and global protection architecture that does not allow divisions.

The official added that Moscow considers it feasible to continue the process initiated by the heads of state to define the political parameters of a negotiated solution. He stated that this is a task that requires diplomatic methods, without public exposure or unauthorized disclosure.
