Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country will transfer $1 billion to the Peace Council to support the Palestinian population and finance reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.

“We are willing to allocate 1 billion dollars to this new structure, the Peace Council, first of all to support the Palestinian people and to direct these funds to the restoration of the Gaza Strip,” Putin said during his meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Putin stressed that the resources come from Russian assets held in the United States since 2022 and that the operation was previously agreed with the US authorities. He indicated that the full institution of a Palestinian state is essential to stabilize the Middle East, Sputnik reported.

The president recalled that Russia sent more than 800 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza at the most intense moments of the conflict and stressed that bilateral cooperation continues. He also mentioned that around 150 Palestinian young people study at Russian educational institutions within the framework of ongoing training programs.
