Russian Minister Sergey Lavrov assures that his country is willing to defend its interests in the Arctic

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reported that Russia is ready to defend its interests in the Arctic in military, political and technical-military terms.

According to TASS this Thursday, Russia sees that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “is intensifying exercises related to possible crises in the Arctic.”

“Our country is fully prepared to defend its interests in military, political and technical-military terms,” said the Russian Foreign Minister, who emphasized that the Arctic is not NATO territory.

Lavrov said that more and more often in practice, NATO has begun to look at the Arctic region and to declare that due to its geographical location, there are also alliance interests there. He indicated that NATO intends to globalize, legitimize and assert itself as a global gendarme instead of a North Atlantic gendarme, so it also extends to the Arctic region.
