Russian scientists have developed a drug for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, of which preclinical studies will begin.

The drug, as reported by the RT agency, was developed by the Center for Genetic Reprogramming and Gene Therapy. The center is also developing effective and safe genotherapeutic drugs to create new treatment methods for spinal muscular atrophy.

Parkinson's disease is a brain condition that causes movement disorders, as well as mental disorders, sleep disorders, pain and other health problems. Its symptoms include tremors, painful muscle contractions, and difficulty speaking, among others. There is currently no definitive cure for this disease.

A recent global study projects that cases of Parkinson's disease could more than double by 2050, reaching approximately 25.2 million people worldwide, compared to an estimated 11.9 million in 2021. This projection corresponds to an increase of 112% in just three decades.
