Girls and boys from the temporary camp set up at the Pedro Emilio Coll National
Educational Unit, in the Coche parish of Caracas,
participated in a day of shared reading and oral narration organized
by the National Book Center (CENAL), as part of the activities of the Route of Hope for the emotional
support of families affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.
The
activity brought together children between 5 and 12 years old, who enjoyed the
narration of the fable “The Lion and the
Mouse”, by Aesop, by the reading promoter Ana Nava. In addition,
the story was recreated through an interactive theater dynamic, in which the
participants used improvised costumes and sound effects to
represent the characters.
Nava
explained that the initiative seeks to promote reflection on values such as
solidarity, humility and mutual help. “It's a fable that helps
children to reflect on kindness, humility and
mutual help,” he said.
He also added that these
activities also strengthen the sense of accompaniment among minors.
“We want them to realize that, no matter how vulnerable the
situation is right now, we're all united and we're here, helping them,”
he said.
The promoter highlighted the role of reading as a tool for emotional
restraint in emergency settings. “We want boys and
girls to connect with spaces of calm and reflection, because, in times
as hard as this one, they really
need nourishment for the spirit and emotional restraint,” he said.
The day is part of the
deployment carried out by CENAL in temporary camps, through reading, recreation and cultural
activities aimed at girls, boys and
young people, with the purpose of contributing to the management of emotions and the
well-being of families affected by the seismic emergency.
