The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, stated this Thursday, July 25, that in Venezuela there is only one Electoral Power recognized by the National Constitution, as there is anywhere in the world, and that the Public Ministry will initiate criminal action against anyone who disrespects the Magna Carta and tries to supplant it.
During an interview with the Notables program, broadcast by TeleSUR, Saab specified that the National Electoral Council (CNE) is the only one mandated by the Constitution, approved in 1989 in a referendum, to issue electoral results.
“Whoever does it outside of that legal competence knows that they are committing a crime,” he stressed in reference to the intention expressed by spokespersons of the far-right political party Democratic Unity Platform, that on July 28, they will be governed by their minutes instead of those issued by electoral machines, the only ones certified through audits to make official results.
Regarding the electoral process, Saab announced that a total of 1,236 Public Ministry officials will be deployed for the Presidential Election, to prevent any attempt to hinder the process.
He stressed that officials will stay for 24 hours in all fiscal offices to monitor what is going to happen in real time.
On the other hand, he recalled that in many countries of the world there are three powers: the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial, but he stressed that Venezuela escapes the traditional. “Venezuela also has two new powers, the Electoral and the Citizen, a different structure that allows citizens to establish contact with them, and I would add a sixth power, popular power,” he stressed.
He also stated that “Venezuela is in the spotlight today, not because of the elections on July 28, but also because of the natural reserves we have, since it is one of the richest countries in the world that broke away from the colonial yoke of the United States”, after the coming to power of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.
Referring to his administration, he explained that one of his functions as a prosecutor is to avoid impunity, anarchy, promote prevention, workshops, talks and forums.
He said that for seven years “we have served one million 300 thousand people” in contacts with citizens in neighborhoods, communes and their usual spaces.
