The Venezuelan Sara De Alba won the first gold medal for Venezuela in the Pan American Water Sports Championship held in Medellín, Colombia.
De Alba, who competed in the 16-18 year round of the women's 100-meter breaststroke, advanced to the final of the race after finishing first in series 1 of the qualifiers with a time of 1:15.48.
Later, she achieved a mark of 1:14.85 to beat Costa Rica's Micaela Nyree (01:15.85) and Chile's Fernanda Pérez (01:16.29).
For his part, the Venezuelan Sergio Ybarra won the silver medal, after finishing second in the 1500m freestyle (19-22 years old). The Yaracuyan left the 16:24.09 mark to be behind the Mexican Mark Van Eybergen (16:24.09) and above the Peruvian Adrián Ywanaga (16:24.09).
Meanwhile, Mónica Leydar also won silver thanks to a time of 02:22.03 in the women's 200-meter backstroke event 16-18 years old. Mirandina qualified for the decisive round with a previous record of 02:25.17 to complete the podium with the Guatemalan Melissa Diego (Gold - 02:18.57) and the Colombian Isabella Budnik (Bronze - 02:23.74).
On the other hand, César Paredes won the bronze medal in the men's 200 m backstroke event (16-18 years old) with a record of 02:06.54. The man from Caracas scored 02:04.40 in series 2 of the preliminary and was later overtaken by Chilean Edhy Vargas (02:04.40) and Mexican Carlos Moreno (02:06.54).
Currently, Venezuela is in eighth place in the medal table with one gold medal, two silver and one bronze medal.
