Sectorial Cabinet defines actions for post-disaster plan in La Guaira

The Sectorial Cabinet for Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health defined strategic actions to consolidate the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment Plan in the state of La Guaira, an initiative promoted by the Venezuelan State in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

During the session, five UN technical reports on urban resilience developed between 2011 and 2021, the environmental plan for Arrecife and Los Caracas from 2001, and the maps of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC) that locate protected areas and debris deposits exposed to landslides, rainfall and seismicity following the event of last June 24, were analyzed.

The meeting was led by the sectoral vice-president, Dr. Isabel Iturria, under the instructions of the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, with the purpose of structuring institutional contributions aimed at rebirth and prevention in the region, while the Ministry of Popular Power for Health (MPPS) and the Planning Office georeferenced the 182 Guairian healthcare centers, determining through a traffic light system severe effects in seven public and five private centers.

To respond to this contingency, the staff of the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT) integrated these data into the regional Urban Planning Plan using artificial intelligence, also confirming the restoration of the two submarine fiber optic cables for local reconnection, the proposal of workshops on seismically resistant construction and the call for more than seventy thousand researchers in the country to strengthen risk mitigation and the health system.
