The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation of the Republic of Indonesia reported the eruption of the Semeru volcano, located in the province of East Java, recording at least two eruptive events that generated volcanic ash columns scattered to the northeast.

Emissions from the colossus reached a height of 900 meters above the crater, rising to 4,576 meters above sea level, according to volcanic monitoring reports cited by the Tass Agency.

In view of the activity of the geological event, local authorities issued a security alert urging residents of the Indonesian people and tourists to stay outside a five-kilometer exclusion perimeter around the crater due to the imminent risk of the expulsion of incandescent rocks.

Preventive response and disaster mitigation teams maintain constant surveillance in the areas surrounding the volcano to protect human lives and attend to possible evacuations of nearby rural populations in the face of a possible increase in eruptive flow.
