The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed that her Government will continue to send humanitarian aid to Cuba as part of the country's sovereign decisions.

“Humanitarian aid to Cuba, as to other countries, continues, because it is humanitarian aid and Mexico has always been in solidarity with the whole world. And they are sovereign decisions,” he said during his press conference.

He specified that the supply of oil to the island is carried out in two ways: one corresponds to humanitarian cooperation and the other to contracts signed by Petrleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) with institutions of the Cuban Government.

“That's why I say that it's a sovereign decision for Mexico to send humanitarian aid and with PEMEX, in terms of the contract, when it sends. I never talked about whether it had been suspended or not,” he said.

According to what was published by the Telesur website, the United States blockade of Cuba caused losses estimated at 7556.1 million dollars between March 2024 and last February, an increase of 49% compared to the previous period. In the health sector, losses reached almost 300 million dollars in one year, while in the energy sector there were losses of more than 496 million due to restrictions on the import of fuels and spare parts.
