The
president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, indicated that she is seeking a
diplomatic solution with the United States (USA) to continue sending oil to Cuba.
“Mexico
is a sovereign country, the problem we have now is that the United States said it will
impose tariffs on any country that sends oil to Cuba. That's why we're
looking for all diplomatic channels to resolve this problem, because
we don't want to affect Mexico either,” Sheinbaum said at a press conference.
Sheinbaum
confirmed that, this week, his administration will send humanitarian aid
consisting of basic products to the island, while negotiating the oil issue with Washington.
Sheinbaum
reaffirmed that Mexico's solidarity is part of a
“historic” solidarity policy, Sputnik reported.
“Mexico has
always supported Cuba, even in the most authoritarian governments,
Cuba was supported, and it was the only country that opposed the blockade” on the Caribbean island,
when it was imposed by the United States in 1962, a measure that is now condemned by almost all countries, he recalled.
