The Minister of Popular Power for Culture,
Ernesto Villegas, reported that next Friday, June 27, the show
“Neither enemies nor foreigners” will premiere at the Román Chalbaud National
Theater in Caracas, with free admission, a multidisciplinary artistic proposal that
combines theater, circus, dance, music and cinema in a poetic dramatization.
He indicated that this work denounces the kidnapping of compatriot
migrants in El Salvador. “The United States invoked a law of 1798,
called the Foreign Enemies Act to justify the unjustifiable: the
return to the most abhorrent episodes of persecution that have occurred in
humanity and the center of that persecution are Venezuelan women and Venezuelans,” he said.
In that sense, he explained that “Neither enemies nor
foreigners” is opposed to the American narrative that discriminates against the poorest
migrants and threatens Venezuelan citizenship. “We are not
enemies. Venezuelans, Latin Americans and the overwhelming majority of
humanity when they migrate will contribute to the material and spiritual wealth of the receiving
peoples,” he said.
Villegas highlighted that
Venezuelan artists and creators honor and free their migrant compatriots from these stigmas, through culture and art.
For her part, the director of the production, Jericó
Montilla, stressed that this work stems from the firm conviction of approaching this
topic from a social commitment. “As artists, we should take art as
a tool for transformation, with the responsibility to say, denounce,
reflect and do a grain of sand on our social context,
” he stressed.
In addition, he pointed out that the joint work of the
National Theater Company, Teatro Ceres and the National Circus of Venezuela has
resulted in “a precise and concrete show that does not intend to disguise
anything at all, but that is full of poetry and stage dynamism.”
“Neither Enemies Nor Foreigners” will offer performances, with free access, on June 28 and 29 at the National Theater, at 4:00 p.m. Then, it will be transferred to the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CELARG), where it will be presented on July 3, 4 and 6, with performances on Friday and Saturday at 5:00 p.m. In addition, the show is expected to tour throughout the country and will be performed in Central America.
