Argentine organizations and politicians today reported that members of federal forces attacked participants in a demonstration in defense of retirees, in the vicinity of the Congress.

As indicated by the Provincial Memory Commission, members of the Gendarmerie, the Naval Prefecture, the Federal Police and the Airport Security Police threw chemical gases at those present and at least 116 were affected, mostly burns.

Among the injured are journalists and a member of the Left Front, the body said. In addition, he reported that a citizen was arrested.

For his part, the legislator of the Union for the Fatherland Sergio Omar Palazzo condemned the repression against retirees and those who accompany them in their usual Wednesday march.

Through his profile on the social network X, he described those who beat older adults as “wild and perverse”.

Last week, thousands of people attended demonstrations in this and other cities, following a call made by the General Confederation of Labor, the Central of Workers (CTA) and the Autonomous CTA.

The participation of the three main trade union federations in the retirees' march came at the beginning of a 36-hour day of struggle, during which they also denounced the repression, in previous protests, of those who demand fair assets, the restoration of programs for the delivery of medicines and better living conditions.
