This Thursday, the 18th, the first vice-president of the Permanent Committee on Internal Policy of the National Assembly (AN), deputy Julio García Zerpa, reported that in two and a half years after the installation of the Special Commission for the Revolution of the Justice System, 54,000 prisoners have been released from prison in different prisons in the country.

He explained that the members of this special commission personally interviewed those deprived of their liberty, together with their families, in the 543 detention centers distributed throughout the country, according to a press release published on the AN website.

García Zerpa indicated that with a multidisciplinary team from the Judicial System, they attended to each file, in order to resolve cases related to the Bolivarian Constitution and the laws of the Republic.

He recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, “knots of bottles were found in prisons, which housed 95,000 Venezuelans” and thanks to the special commission, the number dropped to 45%.

In that regard, he clarified that the decrease did not increase crime rates, but that they were kept to a minimum, with the support of security agencies.

He added that there are no negative leaders in prisons, thanks to the institutions of the justice system, which allows them to have 100% control and thus apply the new inclusion regime that guarantees those deprived of their liberty their human rights, allowing them to work and study.

He also described the Venezuelan prison system as one of the best in Latin America, because there is no distribution of drugs or weapons inside prisons or prevention centers. He reported that criminal laws, such as the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Criminal Code , are being reviewed in order to adapt them to the current context.

On the other hand, with regard to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), he pointed out that 95% are attached to the laws of the Republic and work for social welfare; but 5% allegedly use funding to destabilize the Venezuelan State.

The Law on the Supervision, Regularization, Action and Financing of Non-Governmental and Related Organizations, already in its second discussion, García Zerpa stressed will allow us to review their legal statutes and the use of the financial resources of those organizations that make life in the nation.

He stated that some NGOs are terrorist tools and finance opposition political parties to defeat the Venezuelan State.
