Sucre advances in post-earthquake recovery: controlled demolition and census of condominiums

As part of the risk management and mitigation plan following the double earthquake that occurred on June 24, 2026, the Mayor's Office of the Sucre municipality, led by Mayor Diógenes Lara, is carrying out a controlled demolition of the Los Dos Caminos residences.

The structure, located on Sucre Avenue in Los Dos Caminos, Leoncio Martínez parish in Miranda state, received a “red label” after habitability evaluations, becoming the second building with severe structural damage to be demolished in the municipality to safeguard citizens.

The tasks, carried out by the crews of the Department of Engineering and Urban Planning, are carried out manually and under a strict safety protocol.

This careful planning has been designed to ensure a controlled intervention that protects at all times the physical integrity and peace of mind of the residents of the surrounding buildings, as well as of the passers-by who circulate through this important road artery.

During the day, the director of Engineering and Urban Planning, accompanied by a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers and workers, stayed on site supervising that each stage of the process was carried out in an organized manner.

Simultaneously, progress is being made in the immediate collection of debris to keep the area clear, mitigating the visual and environmental impact on the community environment.

As part of the municipal government's comprehensive response to this seismic contingency, the Mayor's Office is also carrying out an official census aimed at condominium councils.

The fundamental objective of this register is to quantify damage, assess needs and efficiently channel government and institutional aid for buildings that were affected by the earthquakes of last June.

With teamwork, empathy and structured planning, Mayor Diógenes Lara's administration continues to develop actions that strengthen security and accelerate the city's urban recovery in the face of adversity.
