Sucre artisans delivered rag dolls and toys to children affected by the earthquakes

Artisans, artisans and creators from the state of Sucre delivered
rag dolls and handmade toys to boys and girls affected by the earthquakes of last June 24
, during a solidarity day held at the Carlos Fiol and Narciso Gonell
temporary camps, located in Catia La Mar, La Guaira state.
The
activity was led by Omaira Gutiérrez, representative of the cabinet of the Ministry
of Popular Power for Culture in Sucre, who stressed that the
initiative represents a sign of the support and affection of the people of Sucre towards the affected families.
“We are bringing some of the immense love that
the people of the state of Sucre want to give to these boys and girls,” he said and explained
that, since the moment of the emergency, creators from different municipalities of the
entity have joined the development of these handmade toys.
“From Rio Caribe,
Carúpano, San José de Aroa, Rio Casanay, Cumanacoa and Cumaná they sent a
considerable amount of toys, not only made by our women, but also by our artisans,” she said.
For her part, the director
of the Art Network, Aracelis García, highlighted the value of these pieces made manually.
“They are not plastic toys, they are toys each made with the
love of these women and these men too,” she said, noting that the
delivery included rag dolls, gurrumangos, carts, boats and small boats.
In addition to receiving the toys, the boys and girls from the camps
participated in workshops where they learned to make their own
rag dolls, promoting spaces for creativity, recreation and
emotional support during their stay in these temporary camps.
