Tallista Diego Ríos shared his artistic career at a conversation in Yaracuy

The Red Art Store of the Carmelo Fernández Museum in San Felipe, Yaracuy state, was the scene of the discussion “Vetuste and Veta”, led by the Colombian-Venezuelan carver Diego Ríos, who shared with the public his five-decade career dedicated to woodworking.

During the day, the artist explained part of the techniques he has developed throughout his career to transform wood into figures of birds, reptiles and insects, characterized by their precision and detail.

Ríos, living in the town of São Paulo, has received recognition from UNESCO for the dissemination of his work in Latin American and European countries. In addition, in Yaracuy he is also known as “Smug Bird”, a nickname related to the presence of elements of nature in his creations.

The meeting allowed attendees to learn about the different stages of the artisanal process, from the selection of wood to the elaboration and conservation of the pieces. The participants also exchanged questions and experiences with the master carver.

The activity is part of a cycle of meetings aimed at preserving and transmitting knowledge related to manual arts, especially among new generations. The organizers announced upcoming meetings with other specialists from the region.
