This Tuesday, January 06, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, called on the American judge, Alvin Hellerstein, to respect international legality, highlighting the lack of jurisdiction in the case of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores, after being kidnapped by the United States (USA).

“I want to call on Judge Alvin Hellerstein to respect international legality and to proceed to recognize the lack of jurisdiction of the court under his command to prosecute a president of a sovereign nation, such as the Venezuelan Homeland, who is protected by diplomatic immunity,” he said during the notification of the installation of the new board of directors of the National Assembly (AN).

In that regard, he explained that he accordingly recalled that President Nicolás Maduro was re-elected on July 28, 2024 and sworn in on January 10, 2025 for the period 2025-2031, and emphasized that, as Head of State, he enjoys absolute immunity in accordance with international law; therefore, he assured that his kidnapping and forced transfer to another country constitutes a crime of serious gravity, classified as international kidnapping and illegitimate deprivation of freedom.

He also denounced that the US military action was an illegal armed aggression carried out by a foreign power against a sovereign and peaceful country, without prior declaration of war or authorization from the Security Council of the United Nations (UN).

In addition, he took the opportunity to highlight the maturity of the Venezuelan people, who despite aggression, remain in order and committed to peace, in turn called for civic-military, popular and institutional unity to defend national sovereignty.

He reiterated, on behalf of the Public Ministry and the Citizen Power, the demand for the immediate and unconditional release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores, as well as urging international organizations to act in accordance with international law.
