At the
Carlos Cruz-Diez Museum of Printing and Design, in Caracas, the first working meeting was held with the
members that make up the team of the Program for Peace and Coexistence,
launched by the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, on January 23.
During the meeting, the
survey prepared by the United Nations Development Program
(UNDP) was presented, which provides a diagnosis of the country's assets and challenges.
In this regard, the Minister of
Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, emphasized that the team is
in permanent session and has advanced contacts with religious, political, social and community sectors.
“We are
really optimistic that this team can, on the basis of
this diagnosis, follow the path of building peace and stable democratic
coexistence for Venezuela,” he said, while highlighting relevant
data from the UNDP study.
“
99% of Venezuelans are proud to be Venezuelans, and
84% of people who recognize that there is a conflict in Venezuela are
inclined to have agreements and that it is not violence or imposition that gives results,” he
said.
He also stated that they have “
full agreement that our job from now on is to listen to
all sectors of Venezuelan society. We call for the Venezuelan
affirmative, what is reflected is that an overwhelming majority of
Venezuelans do not want the conflict and that they rather want concrete agreements and solutions.”
He indicated that a
format of expression of will soon be circulated for all those who wish
to contribute and participate with their ideas.
The meeting was attended by Professor Ana María San Juan, executive secretary of the team; César Machado, Gerson Gómez, Ricardo Cusanno, Ángel Prado, Nuramy Gutiérrez, Genesis Garvett, Michael Penfold, Lamking González, Indira Urbaneja, Gustavo Canchica and Miqueas Figueroa.
