As part of the commemorative ceremony for the five years since the victory of Operation Black First against the mercenary incursion known as Operation Gideon, the governor of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán, highlighted the fundamental role of the conscience and preparation of the Venezuelan people in the comprehensive defense of the nation.

During his speech, Terán emphasized that popular organization and mobilization, together with community intelligence systems and the Bolivarian Militia, were decisive for the immediate activation of the defense mechanisms of that May 3, 2020.

“The conscience of this People, their preparation for the integral defense of the nation, the People in uniform and, without a doubt, the immortal spirit of Hugo Chávez who continues to protect this sacred people, made it possible to frustrate imperialist plans,” said the regional president.

The governor also stressed that the Popular-Military and Police Fusion, conceived by Commander Chávez, was key to preventing the enemies of the country from achieving their objectives.

“Thanks to this Fusion, Yankee imperialism was prevented from achieving its pretensions through mercenaries, as they have tried in other countries. Today we celebrate the defeat of the imperialist Operation Gideon and reaffirm our commitment to national sovereignty,” he added.

Terán recalled that the objective of the armed incursion along the coast of La Guaira was to generate chaos, provoke an insurrection and attempt on the life of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and other senior leaders of the Bolivarian Revolution.

“It was a strategy similar to that used in Haiti, where a group of mercenaries broke into the president's residence and assassinated him to destabilize the country. In Venezuela, however, the conscience and organization of the People prevented a repetition of a scenario of violence and foreign intervention,” he said.
