The city of Güiria, in the state of Sucre, said goodbye to the 21st International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN), which this year was added to the agenda for the city's 258 years and turned Plaza Bolívar and its surroundings into a meeting point for readers, families and scholars.

Throughout the day, literary presentations, workshops and artistic exhibitions were held, in parallel with other activities scheduled for the local anniversary, such as the 2nd Grand Mariscal de Ayacucho International Film Festival and the 3rd Cultural Exhibition.

In this space, boys and girls participated in poetry dynamics, word games and a rag doll workshop aimed at recognizing local characters and traditions. Among the most striking experiences was the workshop “Playing with Marta Cumbalé”, which brought children closer to the story of this Güireña heroine through drawing and painting activities.

The rescue of Patuá was also part of the fair. Singing activities and games in the Creole language allowed children to become familiar with this linguistic heritage, while a special register of voices of older speakers sought to preserve their sounds for future cultural memory work.

Another initiative developed was the documentation of traditional cuisine, inspired by the book “100 and more recipes of traditional Güire cuisine”, by Rosa Bosch and Rosa Pagés. Chefs from the community shared their preparations and stories for an audiovisual record dedicated to preserving techniques and stories associated with local cuisine.

The editorial offer brought together public, private and independent labels; at the same time, there were presentations of works such as Elements of Philosophy, by José Gregorio Hernández, and Cinema in an Ecofeminist Key, dedicated to reflecting on sustainable cinematographic practices.

In a training space, the writer Gustavo Silva and the anthropologist Alfredo Bello shared with teachers ideas and tools related to decolonial thinking based on the collection “Historical Insurgencies”, highlighting the role of traditional games as a resource to strengthen identity.

The 21st FILVEN Sucre thus closed an edition that integrated literature, oral memory, cinema, gastronomy and traditional expressions, reaffirming Güiria as a cultural meeting point for the region.
