This Tuesday, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa) revealed that three citizens are involved in a weekend attack on the Presidential Palace under the command of Christian Malanga.
In the events of the weekend, six people, including Malanga, died and dozens were arrested, including three Americans, after that attack and another attack on the residence of a close ally of President Felix Tshisekedi, the Congolese army spokesman said, said General Sylvain Ekenge.
Ekenge had announced that Malanga died in a shootout early Sunday morning with presidential guards. The situation “is under control,” he said.
Authorities said they were still trying to unravel how Marcel, Malanga's 21-year-old son, went from playing soccer in high school to supposedly trying to overthrow the leader of one of Africa's biggest countries.
