Swedish MEP Charlie Weimers announced the beginning of the “era of deportations” in the European Union following the recent approval of a new anti-immigration law. The legislator said that the European bloc has left words behind to focus on the effective application of its regulations and on strengthening the protection of its borders.

This new legislation is positioned as the strictest in the history of the European Union, incorporating severe measures such as house searches and longer periods of detention. In addition, the regulations provide for the creation of deportation centers located outside the territory of the member states of the block.

In order to ensure that nations of origin accept the readmission of their citizens, the European Union has warned that it will use its influence in strategic aspects such as foreign aid, visa policies and trade. This diplomatic pressure seeks to ensure compliance with return processes.

MEP Weimers justified the tightening of these policies by arguing that there are currently hundreds of thousands of people living in the shadows within Europe, a situation that, in his opinion, must end immediately.
