The application file for the Venezuelan hallaca as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity before the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is ready to be submitted to the organization soon.

This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, on his Telegram channel, in which he highlights that the work is being carried out as part of the “More Cultural Heritage l” vertex of the Great Mission Viva Venezuela, my Beloved Homeland.

The decision to nominate hallaca, an emblematic dish of Venezuelan Christmas, seeks to ensure its recognition and safeguarding worldwide. The Center for Cultural Diversity was the entity responsible for preparing the extensive file, which includes a bibliographic survey and research on the origin and the various variants of this delicacy, which merges indigenous, African and European heritages.

The postulation of the hallaca is part of a strategy to make visible the cultural wealth of Venezuela, in addition to other efforts such as the application of the arepa, whose response by UNESCO is expected in the year 2027.
