The Global Sumud international flotilla, made up of more than fifty civilian vessels, entered this Tuesday, September 30, the maritime zone that Israel considers an interception zone, marking a new point of tension on the route to the Gaza Strip.

The information was confirmed by the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation (KAN), which reported the advance of the convoy within the area considered to be at operational risk by the Israeli occupation.

International activists, humanitarian workers and representatives of civil society travel on board, who denounce the prolonged isolation imposed on the Gazan population.

The maritime convoy departed with initial logistical support from various regional actors. However, as they approached the interception zone, both the ships sent by the Spanish and Italian Navies and a Turkish surveillance drone were kept outside the perimeter identified by Israel as a sensitive area.

This leaves civilian vessels without state support in one of the most monitored areas in the Eastern Mediterranean.
