The Vatican reports that the Pope has bilateral pneumonia

In a statement, the Vatican press office reported that Pope Francis 's state of health is complex, following the onset of bilateral pneumonia.

“Laboratory tests, chest X-rays and the Holy Father's clinical condition continue to present a complex picture,” the office said.

In this regard, the entity emphasized that “polymicrobial infection, which has arisen in the context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, and has required the use of corticosteroids and antibiotics, makes therapeutic treatment more complex”.

He also insisted that “the chest CT scan that the Holy Father underwent this afternoon, as prescribed by the Vatican medical team and the medical staff of the 'A. Gemelli Polyclinic Foundation, 'revealed the appearance of bilateral pneumonia, which required additional pharmacological treatment.”
