The traditional Zaragoza celebration, originally from Sanare, Lara state, was presented in advance at the Plaza de los Museos de Bellas Artes, Caracas, where people from Caracas were able to appreciate this popular event linked to the Day of the Holy Innocents.
The activity was led by the group Jhonny Acosta and the Parranderos de Sarría, who began the parade at two in the afternoon. The representation recreated the biblical passage about King Herod's order to kill children under two years of age in Bethlehem, after the birth of the Child God, a fact that gives rise to the commemoration.
The spokesman for the Ateneo Fine Arts Association, Luis Piña, explained that the meeting is part of a program that for six years has incorporated various traditions into the cultural space, including La Parranda de San Pedro, San Antonio, San Juan and the Paradura del Niño.
“The Paseo Artesanal de Bellas Artes is the most cultural site in all of Caracas, where artisans, poets, visual artists, musicians converge, and also the Museum of Fine Arts, the Science Museum, the National Experimental University of the Arts, the Teresa Carreño Theater and the National Art Gallery is very close,” said the representative of the artisanal movement.
The day included Tamunangue music, masked dances, colorful costumes and jingle bells, in a staging that attracted a diverse audience. Zaragoza, recognized as the cultural heritage of Lara and the country, was thus projected in the capital as part of the preservation and dissemination of Venezuelan traditions.
