There are 21 deaths and more than 20,000 victims of fires in Chile

Chilean authorities reported that the fires recorded in the south-central region of the country caused 21 victims, more than 20,000 people affected and around 800 buildings destroyed.

The Minister of the Interior, Álvaro Elizalde, specified that 20 of the deaths occurred in the Biobío region and one in the Ñuble region. He also indicated that the Legal Medical Service confirmed the identity of 11 bodies through the analysis of fingerprints and DNA tests.

Elizalde highlighted that Chile has international support from Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, Colombia and Paraguay to deal with the emergency, Telesur reported.

The official report records 23 active foci in different areas of the country, mainly in Biobío, Ñuble and La Araucanía.
