In an act full of symbolism and territorial commitment, the proposal for the National Anthem of Guayana Esequiba was presented. This new musical emblem joins efforts to consolidate the identity of the new Venezuelan territorial entity.
The event, according to a press release, was held at the Upata Regional Academic Orchestra Center, part of the Simón Bolívar National System of Choirs and Orchestras, as responsible for the interpretation. The central axis of the day was the formal delivery of the scores and the lyrics of the proposal by Professor Fernando Rivas to the Governor of the State of Guayana Esequiba.
Governor Villamizar, accompanied by regional, legislative and military authorities, emphasized the importance of this step in the drafting of the law on symbols of the new state. He stated that the anthem proposal is the result of extensive popular consultation with communities, both indigenous and Creole, and that its lyrics and music reflect the feeling that “the sun of Venezuela is rising in our Guiana Esequiba”.
The young orchestra director, Fernando Rivas, said he had experienced a “beautiful challenge” when he was in charge of the musical arrangements, adjusting to the lyrics to “convey the emotionality” of the text and ensure the identification of the Venezuelan people.
For his part, Arsenio González, President of the State Legislative Council, stressed that the text collected for the anthem reflects the identity and struggle for territory expressed by the Essequiban communities.
The Legislative Council will continue with the consultation and preparation work to polish this proposed anthem, as well as the flag and the shield. Once this process is over, the symbols will be submitted for consideration by the High Commission for the Defense of the Essequibo and the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
