As part of the “Flowers for Bolivar and Gallegos” activity, the centennial edition of the novel “The Trepadora”, by Rómulo Gallegos, was presented at the facilities of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Rómulo Gallegos (CELARG).

The event was led by the president of the institution, Pedro Calzadilla, who highlighted the relevance of republishing this fundamental work of the distinguished Venezuelan writer, whom he described as an “endearing figure” of national literature and a “congregator of Venezuelan nationality, identity and culture”.

Calzadilla emphasized that CELARG is committed to disseminating Gallegos' work and noted that, in the face of current threats from the United States against Venezuela, the people reaffirm their dignity.

“Mr. Danger is on the loose in the Caribbean wanting to do harm, but here we are standing with Bolívar and Gallegos,” said Calzadilla, drawing an analogy between the character of Doña Bárbara and the current context.

The activity took place through the cultural dissemination programs promoted by CELARG, aimed at preserving and disseminating the legacy of authors who have marked the country's intellectual history. The reissue of “La Trepadora” seeks to bring new generations closer to the work of Gallegos and to keep his literary contribution current.

During the day, the historical value of the novel, originally published in 1925, and its validity as a testimony to the social transformations of the time, were highlighted. The centennial edition offers the opportunity to review a text that reflects the tensions between tradition and modernity in twentieth-century Venezuela.
