More than 3,300 people remain displaced by floods in Uruguay, according to the National Emergency System (SINAE) this Friday.

Through its latest, the agency explained that “at the country level, 3,384 people remain displaced from their homes: 115 evacuated and 3,269 self-evacuated. Of that total, 2,777 correspond to Canelones, 567 to Durazno, 36 to Florida and 4 to San José. In addition, 5 national routes have been reported to have been cut off.”

Meanwhile, the Departmental Emergency Coordinating Center (CECOED) of Canelones, reported that in that “department the number of people evacuated decreased and the number of self-evacuated people increased and, therefore, the number of displaced people”.

The Center specified that the increase is due to the updating of records and, at the moment, 35 people are being evacuated and 2,742 self-evacuated, to add up to 2,777 people displaced due to the flooding of the Santa Lucía River.

They reported that the return operation is being implemented in Durazno, which could end between Saturday and Sunday, since approximately 80% of the displaced have already returned to their homes.

There are still 36 people displaced from their homes as evacuees, and there are no longer registered self-evacuees, according to the Florida CECOED.
