The social network TikTok temporarily stopped working since last Saturday in the United States (USA), after the Supreme Court approved a law approved in 2024 by Congress on Friday, which forced the platform to disassociate itself from its Chinese company Byte Dance or face closure.
“A law was enacted that prohibits TikTok in the message when opening the application, users were faced with a pop-up message from the company that prevented them from scrolling through the videos.
“Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now,” detailed the message that appeared on user devices approximately an hour and a half before the law came into force, scheduled for 00.01 on Sunday.
the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ratified that federal law. The court decision leaves in limbo the fate of the popular platform, which has 170 million users in the North American nation, amid reports that Trump is considering an executive order to “save TikTok”.
