The President of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed his involvement in the Israeli search operation carried out against Lebanon in September 2024, an action, directed against the Islamic Resistance Movement Hezbollah, caused more than 40 deaths and about 3,000 injuries, mostly civilians.
During an interview with Time magazine, Trump revealed that the offensive was carried out under his “direct sponsorship”, in coordination with the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The American president stated that he was informed of all phases of the attack and that he participated in some decisions.
The operation involved the simultaneous activation of thousands of bombs between September 17 and 18, with explosions in hospitals, stores and residential areas. Although Israel claimed responsibility, until now Washington's involvement had not been recognized.
Humanitarian organizations such as Human Rights Watch demanded an independent investigation, considering that the use of explosive traps could constitute a violation of international law.
The attack, framed in the context of the Israeli conflict in Gaza, was aimed at weakening Hezbollah and curbing its support for Palestine. However, it generated an armed response on the part of Lebanon and led to a cessation of hostilities in November of the same year.
Trump's statement reaffirms the role of the United States as a strategic support for Israel in the political, military and financial spheres.
