The President of the United States, Donald Trump, held a meeting with his counterpart from Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, in St. Peter's Basilica before the funeral of Pope Francis.

According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, when he left it, he threatened to impose new sanctions on his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, if hostilities in the Ukrainian conflict did not cease.

“Maybe (President Putin) has to be treated differently, through banking or secondary sanctions,” he said, insinuating that he would like to see the willingness of both parties to the conflict to conclude a peace agreement so that hostilities cease.

He also pointed out that the Ukrainian conflict “should not have happened, and it would not have happened if I had been president at that time,” reiterating that he is trying to “clean up the mess” left to him by the administrations of former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

He added that he doesn't like Russia's attacks on supposedly civilian installations in Ukraine.

However, President Putin clarified that some civilian infrastructures are used by the Kiev regime for military purposes, so they represent legitimate objectives for the Russian Armed Forces.
