UCV suspended ordinary academic activities until September 1

The Central University of Venezuela (UCV) suspended its regular academic activities until September 1, following the decision of the University Council to prioritize support, humanitarian care and reconstruction in the face of the emergency generated by the earthquakes of last June 24.

Through her social networks, Madeline Mujica, a member of the University Council of that university, also explained that administrative activities “will be conditioned by what each agency dictates”.

The house of studies will validate as hours of community service the work of the volunteers of the FCU-UCV Collection Center.

In this regard, Mujica recommended to faculty councils the opening of community service projects linked to the context of the disaster, as well as the promotion of teaching-service activities and the permanent provision of subjects from the Interfaculty Cooperation Program (PCI) focused on first aid and risk prevention.

The Faculty of Medicine, in partnership with the UMIA platform, enabled a remote medical assistance network for victims and families, allowing professional guidance via telephone without the need for travel.

For his part, Dean Mario J. Patiño emphasized that this initiative seeks to add volunteer doctors to guide patients in the search for relief.

The University Council approved organizing a solemn event to recognize all the actors who have provided support to the community during the emergency.

The authorities urged the student community to keep informed only through the university's official channels and networks in the event of any news.

The UCV authorities also decided to close the Plaza del Rectorado after an inspection carried out on June 29, as it presents “faults and fractures in the columns and structures”.

The inspection was carried out by architects and engineers of the Central Station, who found that “the movement of one of the slabs located in the covered square over the bathrooms of the Auditorium of the UCV” was recorded.
