This Friday, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution supporting the New York Declaration, which seeks to revitalize the solution of the States of Palestine and Israel, and the disarmament of the Resistance Movement (HAMAS).

Through the UN web portal, the text was released, which was promoted by France and Saudi Arabia, and supported by dozens of countries, it obtained 142 votes in favor, ten against, including Israel, the United States and Argentina - and 12 abstentions.

The New York Declaration establishes “a single road map to materialize the two-State solution,” said the representative of France when introducing the resolution. The two-State solution is a proposal to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by creating two States on the territory of the former Palestinian Mandate.

That document calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages, in addition to the disarmament of HAMAS and its exclusion from the Gaza government in favor of the Palestinian Authority.

The French ambassador specified that the declaration “involves the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian State, normalization between Israel and Arab States and the establishment of collective security guarantees, including Israel”.

This Friday's vote precedes the Summit convened by France and Saudi Arabia for September 22 in New York, at which France and other countries have promised that they will recognize the Palestinian State.
