A group of experts
and rapporteurs from the United Nations (UN) called this
Friday for an immediate halt to the export of weapons to Israel
by other countries, alleging that it violates international humanitarian law in the
midst of the aggressions of the Zionist regime's occupying army in the Gaza
Strip, which number more than 29,500 Palestinian civilians killed.
Through a joint
statement, the rapporteurs state that “the ruling of the
International Court of Justice (ICJ) of January 26, which indicated a plausible
risk of genocide in Gaza, increases the need for an
arms embargo against Israel”, while recalling that all States must
respect the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which urge not to transfer weapons,
ammunition or parts of these if there is certainty that they will be used in ways that
will violate human rights.
The more than 30
signatories, on the other hand, praised countries such as Spain, Belgium, the
Netherlands, Italy and companies such as the Japanese company Itochi, which, according to their
opinion, have suspended their arms transfers to Tel Aviv, and also
recalled that the European Union (EU) has recommended not exporting weapons to the Israeli
State, TELESUR reports on its website.
They emphasized that the United
States (USA) and Germany are by far the main arms
exporters to Israel, with shipments increasing since the
start of the offensive on October 7, while other important
suppliers of military equipment for the occupying army are
France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
