UN Security Council convenes emergency meeting on January 5 after attack on Venezuela

The UN Security Council will meet urgently this Monday, January 5, after the United States bombing of Venezuela this Saturday, which left many dead and injured, as well as the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady of the Republic, Cilia Flores de Maduro.
Colombia encouraged the convening of the meeting, a proposal that was officially supported by Russia and China, permanent members of the Security Council. The rotating presidency of the Council, which this January corresponds to Somalia, approved the call.
The meeting is classified as a discussion on threats to international peace and security, according to the official program of meetings of the UN Security Council.
