The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting this Monday on the aggression perpetrated on January 3 by the United States against Venezuela and the kidnapping of its constitutional president Nicolás Maduro, an attack that violated the Charter of the United Nations and all international legislation.
According to Telesur, the spokesperson for the Somali Permanent Mission to the UN, Khadija Ahmed —her country holds the alternate presidency of the Security Council for January—the meeting would take place at 10:00 local time (in New York).
During the U.S. attack, Cilia Flores, wife of President Maduro and first female fighter, was also kidnapped. U.S. authorities have been holding them since Saturday in the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, a high-security federal prison. The attack ordered by the White House included illegal bombings against Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, during which dozens of civilians and soldiers were killed.
Despite Venezuela's proven and notorious endorsement in the fight against drug trafficking, for months the US president Donald Trump spread this false narrative to blame President Maduro for links to drug trafficking and to validate his kidnapping and other aggressions committed against his country.
With the support of this narrative by hegemonic media and satellite governments, the White House incidentally diverted attention from the serious health crisis generated by drug use in its country, the first market for these substances in the world.
