As part of the
commemoration of the centenary of the birth of the Venezuelan composer
Modesto Bor (1926—2026), the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), through the Center for Studies and Artistic
Creation (CECA) “Modesto Bor”, announced the launch of the National
Student Composition Competition, aimed at promoting musical creativity in new generations.
The
initiative, which will be open for the reception of works until June
15, 2026, is aimed at music students from universities, conservatories
and artistic training schools nationwide, with the objective of promoting
diversity of thought and sound exploration from an
academic perspective linked to Venezuelan cultural identity.
The dean of the CECA “Modesto
Bor”, José Rafael Naranjo, highlighted the importance of the event within the commemorative program.
“This space opens up for creativity,
creation, diversity of thought in terms of musical creation (...) The
importance of this competition is vital for the development of this program,
especially in this centenary anniversary anniversary year,” he said.
The competition pays tribute to the artistic and pedagogical career of
Modesto Bor, whose work succeeded in projecting Venezuelan popular music into high-level
academic spaces, consolidating her own sound identity.
In this sense, the
call seeks to give continuity to that legacy, promoting composition
as a tool for expression and cultural research. In addition, it is part of a national
program organized between various institutions, including the Modesto Bor
Foundation, with a presence in states such as Nueva Esparta, Caracas and Mérida.
