UNHCR receives equipment to support the installation of temporary camps in Venezuela

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) received this Wednesday, at the “Simon Bolivar” International Airport, in the state of La Guaira, a total of 18.1 tons of equipment for accommodation intended for families affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.

The technical delivery was received by members of the UNHCR office in Venezuela; Major General Manuel Castillo Rengifo, designated ambassador to Belarus and the director of the Office for Africa of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Marlon Peña.

The shipment, from Panama, contains 728 units of kitchen sets, 10,080 units of solar lamps and 32 housing units for refugees.

The units will be sent to temporary camps set up by the Venezuelan Government in the Capital District and the states of La Guaira, Miranda and Falcón.

During this day, in the morning hours, the Venezuelan Red Cross received a shipment of almost 40 tons of humanitarian aid that will be delivered to those affected by the devastating earthquakes.

According to the latest official balance sheet released this Tuesday, 17,907 people lost their homes as a result of earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5.
