United States Geological Survey corrects the location of the epicenter of the second earthquake of June 24

The Minister of People's Power for Transportation, Francisco Garcés, reported that the United States Geological Survey has corrected the epicenter of the second magnitude 7.5 earthquake, placing 17 km from Catia La Mar.

From his account on the social network, the holder of the transport portfolio specified that the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Infrastructure Habitability became aware of the information provided by the entity in the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 28.

This technical update modifies the preliminary data issued after the event of June 24, 2026, which erroneously placed both earthquakes in the state of Yaracuy.

The experts refined the data because the initial waves were hidden by the first earthquake of magnitude 7.2, which occurred thirty-nine seconds earlier. The specialists kept the magnitude of 7.5 of the second event unchanged, the surface depth of 10 kilometers and the original fault mechanism.
