University system will promote days on mental health and study of seismic culture

After the recent earthquake that caused damage to various infrastructures in the country, the Minister for University Education, Ana María Sanjuán, reported that psychological care and mental health plans have been deployed in university institutions.

In statements collected by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Sanjuán said that training is also being implemented to provide group therapy, as well as therapeutic support for those affected by the past earthquakes of June 24.

This effort is not only aimed at students and teachers, but also at rescue personnel and university firefighters who worked at the points of greatest crisis and who require a space for emotional containment.

“We are in the process of incorporating as many people into group therapies, adults, but also young people, while respecting each other's times. We have to face this by putting the student's life first,” he said.

Parallel to these days of psychological care, the university sector is preparing to resume most classes starting in September, after having rescheduled the degree events and semester closures that coincided with the emergency, especially in the most affected schools such as the Central University of Venezuela (UCV).

Finally, Sanjuán noted that the next National Council of Universities (CNU) will formally discuss the inclusion of seismic and preventive variables in the study pensums, inspired by the culture of seismic preparation in countries such as Mexico and Japan.
