The spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Adnan Abu Hasna, confirmed that approximately 6,000 humanitarian aid trucks are ready to enter the Gaza Strip, however Zionist authorities in Israel prevented their access.
Abu Hasna stated that UNRWA faces “significant difficulties” in getting aid due to severe restrictions on border crossings, and accused Israel of seeking to “systematically displace the population”, further aggravating the crisis.
The spokesman urged the international community to press for the immediate opening of the crossings and to ensure the delivery of essential aid to save the lives of civilians.
The situation comes at a critical moment, since on August 22, the United Nations officially declared famine in the Gaza Strip, with forecasts that it will spread to other governorates by the end of September.
The wave of hunger is the direct result of Israel's closure of border crossings since early March, which imposed severe restrictions on the entry of food, fuel and medicine.
