The Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Mario Lubetkin, said that his country promotes the reduction of tensions in the Caribbean and rejects the possibility of a war in the area.
Lubetkin emphasized in the Arriba Gente program that his Government's position is to keep Latin America and the Caribbean a space of peace and free of nuclear weapons, Sputnik reported.
When asked about the U.S. military deployment in Caribbean waters, he indicated that States in the region must contribute to easing tension.
The minister reiterated that Uruguay seeks to promote conflict mediation and facilitate dialogue. He explained that he is working together with other countries to dismantle pressure mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean, since a military confrontation would compromise stability and economic development.
Venezuela has described these events as human rights violations. Governments and international organizations have rejected U.S. intervention and have called for respect for the region as a zone of peace.
