Uruguay rejected US military intervention in Venezuela and calls for respect for international law

Uruguay rejected U.S. military intervention against Venezuela and emphasized the importance of respecting International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.
“The Government of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay is following with attention and serious concern the events that have been reported from Venezuela since the last few hours, including United States air strikes against Venezuelan military installations and civilian infrastructure,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay said in a statement.
He noted that countries must refrain from resorting to the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other way incompatible with the purposes of the United Nations.
It reaffirmed the character of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace and free of nuclear weapons, as has been the consensus position of our region.
In that regard, he called on the authorities of the United Nations and the Organization of American States to make use of their good offices in order to seek a positive solution to this difficult situation.
