The Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism of Venezuela, Freddy Ñáñez, denounced this Wednesday the reissue of a media campaign against the country's migrant population.

Through his account on the social network X, Ñáñez referred to the American media outlet Voice of America, which he calls a “spokesperson for the White House”, which through “a swarm of bots and right-wing influencers, seeks to inoculate a dangerous matrix of opinion that falsely links Venezuelans with armed gangs operating in the United States (USA)”.

He pointed out that “the new wave of xenophobia is accompanied by an implicit threat from the empire that, since the decree of Barack Obama, seeks to stigmatize Venezuela.”

He stressed that the media campaign represents a “vulgar blackmail” that can be summarized: “if you don't vote for the right there will be more migration”, he criticized.

Ñáñez said that it is public knowledge that “criminal sanctions are the main cause of migration and we are well aware of the faces and surnames of those who requested them at the time and who continue to defend them despite the harm they do to our people.”

In this regard, he explained that Venezuelan migration is part of a double phenomenon, stressing that “it was induced by the economic war” and “it is the only migrant population that returns to its country of origin.”

However, those who have promoted this phenomenon, such as the United States and the Venezuelan extreme right, have “done nothing to ease sanctions and allow for the conditions of mass repatriation. The propaganda use of Venezuelan migration has a very clear objective: to justify any aggression against our country.”
