USA: Democrats block funding to the Department of Homeland Security over ICE abuses

After the assassination of American Alex Pretti by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents , the leader of the Democratic minority in the Senate, Charles Schumer, announced that his party will block the allocation of additional federal funds to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the body that oversees ICE.

‎ “Democratic senators will not provide the necessary votes to pass the appropriations bill if the Department of Homeland Security's funding bill is included,” he said.

‎Asimismo, rejected that thanks to the Republicans' refusal to oppose President Donald Trump, the DHS bill is woefully insufficient to stop ICE.”

‎Schumer described the events in Minnesota, where Petritt died, as “appalling and unacceptable in any American city,” in addition to assuring that he will not vote in favor of the budget package if it is not amended to reduce funding to DHS.
